Wilderness Adventure Hunts for the 2010 / 2011 season

Wolf

Moose Country Outfitting offers you the opportunity to hunt Canadian Bull Moose, Timber Wolf, Black Bear and Wild Buffalo in Alberta's Northern Wilderness.

Moose:
We hunt Moose both in the early season during the "primary rut", in September, and also in November, when bulls typically "herd up" in feeding areas. November can also bring on the "second rut", where we change tactics and hunters and guides can get the bulls calling again! Wolf are combined with these hunts in both seasons. Black Bear and Buffalo can be added to the September hunt to make a significant combination hunt.

Bear:
The Peace River Country of Alberta is known around the world for its strong population of mature Black Bears. Come and experience a spot and stalk Black Bear Adventure Hunt, traveling by truck, ATV and/or canoe. Stay in remote, road access cabins or tent camps located in the centre of the hunting area.

Wolf:
The Timber Wolf holds a "top spot" in the predator / prey relationship, and its nightly calls are inextricably linked to the Northern Experience. Seen as a wonderful additional trophy to your primary hunt species, wolf can also be hunted exclusively over bait in the winter months, or spotted and taken from ATV / snowmobile.

Wild Buffalo:
In the area west of Wood Buffalo National Park, small herds of Wild Buffalo (Wood Bison) have ranged for many years, establishing a huntable population outside the park. These small bands inhabit the Caribou Mountain plateau and its southern slopes in WMU 534. We hunt these beasts during the fall moose season, and then as a dedicated hunt during the winter months on snowmobile from a "mobile cabin"

Early fall Moose Hunts are conducted from a wilderness camp during the September / October calling season (moose rut). Your hunt starts right from the tent door each morning, and we concentrate on the rutting activity of the moose, using calling techniques to bring bulls into the open for the hunter. Wolf are combined on these hunts for the nominal licence fee, and Wild Buffalo also roam in the area. Buffalo can be combined with a $500 trophy fee upon killing one.

Fall Camp

Late fall Moose Hunts are conducted on snowmobile or ATV, depending on snow conditions, and based from warm cabin accommodations located inside the hunting area. Tracking is used extensively to locate moose feeding and bedding areas, and then "drives" or stalking is used to sort out your bull. If rut activity is encountered, we can switch to calling, and may have the bulls coming in! When hunting in WMU 534, Wild Buffalo range throughout the hunting area and can be combined on the hunt for a $500 trophy fee upon killing one. Wolf included for small licence fee.

Primarily an ATV hunt, the ground hunted for Black Bear will be winter roads and seismic lines, and many timber harvested areas in the region. During the "green-up" in May and June, the bears frequent these areas to take in the natural food sources available. If hunting from WMU 524, the hunt can also include a 2 day canoe trip on the class 1 Chinchaga River, providing opportunities in country inaccessible by road or trail. This addition will take you on 100 miles of river adventure, camping on the shores and hunting the way it was before the country was opened.

Timber Wolf hunts are conducted during the time that the pelts are at their finest, and when the northern woods have gone quiet. We hunt wolves mainly from baits set on the perimeter of their territory, and shoot from heated ground blinds. Alternatively, success can be had by moving through their territory on snowmobiles and making a quick shot! This is an excellent way to spend a mid-winter week in beautiful country
